But with urbanisation taking its toll on the state, these villages have been losing their charm. At least that’s what we thought until we discovered our own little village – Dudhwan! This is the story of our village, Dudhwan. A picturesque village located at an elevation of 110 meters above sea level in Raebareli district of Uttar Pradesh. The people here are as warm as the climate is cool; they’re as simple as their lifestyle is wholesome. And if you ever get a chance to visit this place, here are some things that you must do when you’re in Dudhwan!
Try out local cuisines
There are many restaurants in Dudhwan but the best way to taste local cuisines is to enjoy them at home. The most common dish you’ll find here is “khichdi”, a rice and lentil dish that’s as basic as it gets. But what makes it special is the fact that it’s eaten everyday in every home in our village. Other than khichdi, you’ll also find “sattu ka roti”, a roasted mix of gram and wheat flour which is served with curd and pickle. You can also try “makai ke roti”, a variety of maize flour that is used to make roti.
A visit to the bazaar
The bazaar in the neighbouring village is a quaint place where you can buy everything from daily essentials to trinkets. You can find some rare species of herbs and plants growing at the roadside. The bazaar is open from morning 8 AM to evening 8 PM. You can find people here selling local products like atta, rice, pulses and pickles. A walk down the memory lane
There are many places in Dudhwan that will make you go “wow”. But the most amazing place you can visit is the small forest that connects Dudhwan with the neighbouring village. You can walk across the forest and then go further to a village called “Puranpur”. Once there, you can walk for about 1/2 hours to reach Dudhwan. You can take a break at any point of time and enjoy the view down below.
